Each evening of December 6-9th, you and your family are encouraged to bring your friends to two locations to experience Christmas like you’ve never seen before. Christmas on 84th Street, an event sponsored by three churches will celebrate the meaning of Christmas with our Lincoln community.
First Evangelical Free Church hosts a 1st Century village replicating Bethlehem. Experience the ancient town of Bethlehem alive with shepherds and animals, a main street full of merchants, tax collectors, Roman soldiers, and a nativity at their 84th street location. You’ll experience what it was like on that miraculous night 2000 years ago.
After you’ve experienced the past, step into the present at First Evangelical Free Church’s Children’s Ministry wing, the Reign Forest. Here children and youth can purchase gifts for children and youth in the community for as little as $0.25 to $5.00. We’ll put these gifts together in a stocking and give them to children and youth through the Center for People in Need and the Lighthouse. It’s an opportunity to give back to the community together. Before you step back in to the cold, stay around for cookies, cocoa and coffee and music.
Experience Sounds of the Season at New Covenant Community Church. Listen to the rich choral tradition of Handel’s “Messiah”, and on alternating nights, watch the creative stage production of “Imagine Christmas”, a contemporary tale of the birth of Christ as told through dance, music and art. Talented members of all three churches perform nightly in these productions to spread the joy and the good news to all who attend.
In addition, you’ll have a compelling opportunity to give to people in need in our community. Gifts with a Mission is a Christmas store serving people in need in our community with the help of these local agencies: Good Neighbor Center, Lincoln Crisis Pregnancy Center, Fresh Start and The Hub, to name a few. The Gifts with a Mission store provides a way for you to help. The store is located in New Cov’s Flipside Auditorium. You may purchase pre-selected items of their choice to wrap and donate to those in need. Also, stick around to listen to the seasonal sounds of music, while enjoying cookies, cocoa and coffee in our hospitality area.
